The Desert Inside my Body
This project was done under KHOJ’s In context: Public.Art.Ecology – Food Edition III Residency.
Food’s effect on the body is not only physical or nutritional but emotional as well. I am exploring the experience of emotional eating and people’s understanding of their relationship with food. I am interested in the stories of individuals where eating habits have been influenced by emotions and insecurities. Stories where insecurities around the shape and size of the body have determined the eating process.
This project started as an attempt in understanding the urban food chain and the ecosystems behind it. What came forth was the disconnect between the soil and bodies. Here seeds grow in isolation from the soil and our bodies end up consuming mere products without identifying the root of the food. My research has grown to investigate the disconnects within the ecosystem, through the isolated body parts within ourselves.
Performance: “Fat on the plate; Fat in the Body”
Manufacturing bodies: During the residency I went around photographing people’s body part that they felt shame, due to too much fat or too little. This animation is directly inspired by the images of people’s body part and the shame attached to it. Through this project I am exploring our relationship with fat.
Audio Piece: People struggle with their food and body.
